The Solution....

Fully Managed Hosted Desktop/Application Delivery and Microsoft Windows Small Business Server

What is Desktop/Application Delivery?

Desktop/Application Delivery Software (eg Citrix) enables 5 to 75 persons to remotely use corporate Windows programs conveniently and securely over the Web. It performs well across slow connections, strict network firewalls, and non-Windows computers without needing to rewrite applications, upgrade computers, or increase bandwidth.

Benefits of Desktop/Application Delivery Software:

  • Provide Transparent And Convenient Access — From Anywhere
  • Roll Out And Manage Applications Quickly And Easily
  • Protect Your Priceless Information
  • Make A Big Impact On The Business, Not The Budget
  • Virtualised Application Delivery
  • Centralised Computing
  • Any Computer Will Do
  • A Multi-User Solution With Advantages For Everyone
  • Control Over Who Gets Access To What
  • One-Button Updates — Without Inconveniencing Your Users

Using a standard web browser and a basic internet connection, your users can have secure remote access to your business applications. Whether they are working from home, a remote office, a hotel room, an airport, a customer site or a wireless hotspot, your employees can access your central business systems the same as if they were sat at a desk in your office. The built-in encryption of Desktop/Application delivery software safeguards communication across public networks. Using patented techniques from the Desktop/Application delivery software and Microsoft, this solution enables up to 75 users to securely access a hosted small business’s IT network on the multi-user access and input/output redirection of Windows Terminal Services. Through a common, convenient and simple web interface, the Desktop/Application delivery software becomes a central secure access point for external and internal users fielding requests for Email, Databases, SharePoint and similar services.

The way in which the Desktop/Application delivery software works is very simple for your users. Firstly, the user connects to a predefined website URL via their web browser. Secondly, a small piece of software known as the Client is downloaded to the user’s machine whether that by Windows Desktop, Windows Mobile, Mac OS or Linux. Lastly, after the initial login, the user launches the desired application and/or Desktop from a list of authorised applications displayed within a frame within the website. The client software is transparently relaying the keystrokes and mouse clicks over the remote connection to the server which in return sends screen updates and audio output directly to the user.
The remote user experience is the same as working at a desk in the head office due to the underlying protocols that the Desktop/Application delivery software have developed to enable remote users to work productively even on low speed connections of 20Kbps.

Frequently asked questions:

Q) What is Small Business Server?

A) It is an all-in-one server solution designed to help you keep your data more secure and your company more productive. It provides many of the features used by larger companies, such as e-mail, Internet connectivity, internal Web sites, remote access, support for mobile devices, file and printer sharing, backup, and restore—all at one affordable price. Q) How can I use the Desktop/Application Delivery Software with my Microsoft Small Business Server?

A) The Desktop/Application delivery software ( ie Citrix) provides an excellent companion to the Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS). It can be configured on a separate Windows Server 2008 system to host the client portion of the applications running on the SBS system. For example, instead of each user installing the Outlook client on their workstations, you could have the Desktop/Application delivery server run a central copy of the Outlook client on behalf of remote and local users while SBS hosts the Exchange Server. It can also run the SQL Server client for SQL Server databases running on SBS. Consequently, when these clients need to be updated in the future, you would only have to make the change once – on the central Desktop/Application delivery server – and all of the users would benefit from the update the next time they launch the application.
